MGM’s key principals, Mark Fenton and Martin Parsons, have fitted-out narrowboats part and full time since the 1980’s (Mark’s career started at the yard of M E Braine, doyen of traditional builders).
When they set up MGM in 2002, Mark and Martin established a clear idea of the sort of narrowboat they would bring to the waterways market.
MGM’s boats are designed for practical extended cruising, but with absolutely no compromises on cabin style, space and comfort.
The company’s typical fit-out is based on sophisticated panelled ash joinery, cleanly finished steelwork and civilised, robust engines. Usual specifications include twin 12-volt alternators, 240-volt generator, inverter/charger, bow thruster, washing machine, diesel-fired central heating, spray foam insulation.
MGM takes particular care in integrating systems and appliances into it’s furniture design.
In 2005 MGM Boats moved from Burton Upon Trent to Mill lane Boatyard, Thurmaston.
Our new base is much larger, has a purpose built (and well equipped) workshop, covered wet dock and slipway.
It lies on the River Soar, between Leicester and Loughborough. We are about ten minutes by road from the M1 J21a (via A46 express trunk road).
